Archeological Site of Ostia Antica

Hotel del Mare is located about 20 minutes far from Ostia Antica, the Rome’ fisrt colonia  founded during the fourth century BC as a military camp and developed as a port during the Imperial Age.

The site is noted for the excellent preservation of its ancient buildings. Ostia contained the Ostia Synagogue, the earliest synagogue yet identified in Europe, the large Theatre, the Necropolis and the Temple of Hercules.
